Black Leopards to face Stellenbosch

Thohoyandou Stadium will be the centre of attention on Sunday afternoon. That is where the NFD League match between Black Leopards and Stellenbosch FC will be staged.

The fact that the two sides are closely contesting for the league title is reason enough for the local soccer fanatics to expect to watch a thriller.

Stellenbosch rose to the occasion and beat Amazulu 1-0 last Saturday.

Leopards’ right back, Phathutshedzo Nange, will be available for selection on Sunday. Nange was out of action for three matches after seeing red in their game against Mthatha Bucks. According to Leopards’ spokesperson, Mr Berry Ramunenyiwa, their number one goalkeeper, Avhashoni Tshinuna, and the team’s playmaker, Meshack Maphangule, will also be available on Sunday. Maphangule and Tshinuna watched the game against FC Cape Town last Saturday from the grandstand, due to injuries.

Should he be given the chance on Sunday, Nange will form a deadly combination with Dunga Munganga and Lebohang Mabotja at the back, while the strikers, Roggert Nyundu, Mwape Musonda and Thembisani Nevhulamba, are geared to keep the opposition defence running from the onset to the bitter end.

University of Pretoria will host Real Kings at the Tuks Stadium in Pretoria. Royal Eagles and Santos will rub shoulders at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. Jomo Cosmos will entertain Witbank Spurs at the Olën Park Stadium in Potchefstroom and Mbombela United will undertake a journey to Durban, where they will fight for league points against Amazulu at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

In the three matches that will be played tomorrow afternoon, FC Cape Town and Cape Town All Stars will test each other’s strength in their Cape Town derby at the NNK Rugby Stadium. Magezi will travel to Cape Town for their match against Milano United at the Blue Downs Stadium, while the pace setters, Thanda Royal Zulu, will play against Mthatha Bucks at the Mthatha Stadium.
