Big Five pounce on Gondeni's Big Cat to lift Mogudie cup

 

Musasenda Big Five emerged victorious in the Mogudie Soccer Tournament, defeating Gondeni Big Cat 4-3 in a penalty shootout to claim the trophy at the Khubvi Benjie’s Grounds on Sunday. With no goals scored during regulation time, the winner was determined through the dramatic shootout.

Musasenda capitalised on four of their five penalty opportunities, with Tsiko Masikhwa, Muano Mashapha, Ndivho Bele, and Moses Masindi all finding the net. Gondeni Big Cat responded with goals from Lindelani Nephalama, Maduvhahafani Ravuluma, and Murendeni Makhesha.

At the post-match ceremony, Musasenda Big Five were awarded R12,500 in prize money, along with a floating trophy and gold medals. Their path to the final included a convincing 3-0 victory over Mukula Young Santos in the semi-final earlier that day.

Gondeni Big Cat received R5,000 in prize money and were awarded silver medals. Makonde FC, the third-placed team, took home R2,500 after their 0-2 defeat to Gondeni Big Cat in the semi-finals. Mukula Young Santos received R2,000 for their participation.

Individual awards were also presented during the ceremony. Tsiko Masikhwa from Musasenda Big Five was honoured as the best midfielder, while Khodani Matambila, also from Big Five, was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Lindelani Nephalama of Big Cat received the best defender award.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Thovhele Vho Midiyavhathu Tshivhase, adding to the significance of the event.
