Gospel music is not about a beautiful voice and words only, but also about the religious atmosphere you create for God to fulfil his purpose in people’s lives, said Kennedy Ntikana, a gospel singer from Gondeni la ha Mabilu village near Thohoyandou.

Popularly known as Saint Kennedy Ntikana, Kennedy is a unique gospel artist who currently resides in Johannesburg and who has had a smooth musical journey.

He started singing at church at the tender age of 10, until he joined a local church worship team. In April 2016, he  released his début album, You are God – High & Lifted, which has a semi-live feeling. This album has 14 tracks, which suits all languages of the rainbow nation with songs in Venda, Tsonga, Zulu, Sotho and English.

“It’s got energising praise, refreshing worship songs and also inspirational songs that I wrote and composed,” he said. “The album spreads a message of the love of God, hoping only in Jesus for truth and how it’s so enjoyable to walk with Jesus even in this generation.”

It features songs such as Jeso Fela/Yeso ntsena, which will get music lovers dancing nonstop. Other tracks to look out for include U mudzimu wa Isiraele, Busa nkosi yam’, Worship medley,  Why did Jesus die for you, Quqa nga madolo, A thi nga humeli murahu, and Zwi a difha u tshimbila na Yeso.

“This is a beautifully compiled album that will refresh, energise, excite, uplift, strengthen, guide, encourage, bless and inspire you - with songs already spreading fire,” he said. “New songs, powerful words, and creative melodies that will affect your life, your home and your ministry,” said Kennedy.

The album is currently doing well as it has been received well by the community and churches at large.

Within this short period of time, Kennedy has been privileged as well to share the stage with the likes of Patrick Duncan, Takie Ndou, Rofhiwa Manyaga and Thili Maumela, to name a few.

He plans to host a concert in Venda on 16 April, which will not only promote his album but feature young talent. “Those present will leave asking for more and therefore encourage people,” he promised.

Kennedy can be contacted on [email protected] or 0746530828 for bookings and CDs.
