The Quintinizer part of successful MLFM duo

Munghana Lonene FMs Quinton Baloyi is becoming very popular with his mid-afternoon show, 326 thwii. 

Baloyi was born and raised at Manyunyu in Bungeni and his love for radio started when he created a makeshift studio in his rondavel bedroom. He used to imitate his idols like the Big Jam (James Shikwambane), Musa Mavunda and Conny Mashimbye. Little did he know that he was crafting a career path for himself.

The Quintinizer, as he is affectionately known to his listeners, presents the afternoon drive with Conny Mashimbye “Connizer”. The pair started co-hosting the show on 7 April 2015. This show brings together elements of news and entertainment, and has a huge degree of audience involvement, making it an essential daily listening experience. The show runs from 15:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday.

The multi-talented presenter has done almost everything, from reading the news in 2004-2005 to presenting graveyard shows. He had a stint at the afternoon drive back in 2006-2008, and from 2008-2010 co-hosted with Russel “N’wana n’wa Gee” Kwinika and Morris “Maningi wa Ntamu” Sibuyi. Baloyi then went on to host the Top 20 show on Saturday mornings from 07:00 to 10:00. He also hosted a youth show called Vantshwa va hleva (Youth Gossip) and Ta mbilu yanga (Of my heart) on Sundays.

Baloyi said that the medium was a platform for getting hold of people’s attention and receiving new information. “Radio is the only medium that could give me an opportunity to reach as many people as I can in a split second, and that satisfies me. Basically, that’s why I chose radio, because I believe I can change a life or two through my infotainment programmes.”

Baloyi added that he chose this career to empower the youth. “From an early age I always wanted to help people and empower them with information, especially the youth of this country, but without radio as my mode of information transmission, this dream would be impossible,” concluded Baloyi.
