First book for Vhulenda

Vhulenda Netshisaulu is over the moon about publishing her first book, Ndi thai I sina mabuli.

It is written in Tshivenda and is about her true-life experiences. Netshisaulu (21) believes her first offering will help in transforming other people’s lives, especially the youth.

“This book is about different challenges people faces in their lives.  Some of these challenges we choose ,while some we don’t choose as they just come,” said Netshisaulu, who was born and bred in Mangaya village, outside Thengwe, in Mutale.

Netshisaulu, who is studying for a B Com Accounting degree in Gauteng, said her own life experience taught her that people could not solve most of their problems, but only God could. She said the idea to write her book came last year on 24 September at Mangaya Deliverance Christian Centre when Bishop Tangulani Netshisaulu invited her to render a poem.

She rendered a poem, Zwa mudzimu a zwi fhedzwi nga muthu, loosely translated as meaning "God’s blessings are unlimited". The poem explains the journey her uncle, Bishop Netshisaulu, had undertaken as a servant of God until he reached his current position.

“After that poem, everyone was moved, and I was also impressed.  Bishop Netshisaulu and some senior members encouraged me to take my talent to another level by publishing a book,” says Netshisaulu.

 The 105-page book was published in July and more than 200 copies have already been sold locally.  Most of Netshisaulu’s customers are educators and her wish is to see it being prescribed for schools by the department of education. “This book talks about education and general life.  It is very important to the youth. I will be happy if it is used at school,” said Netshisaulu.

She is part of a group of youths who formed a poem- and story-writing club. The club was initiated by her other uncle, Dr Nthambeleni Netshisaulu, a senior Tshivenda lecturer at the University of Venda.

Netshisaulu is already working on her second book, Naa ndi Senga na? that she plans to publish before the end of the year.
