New voice on the gospel scene

A new voice in the local gospel music fraternity is emerging with a mighty sound. No doubt can exist that Mpho Ragimana is amongst the hottest properties in this competitive industry.

Ragimana, who goes by the stage name Poroza, has just released his debut album entitled It is His grace. Local gospel music maniacs who have listened to the album will concur that this is one of the best gospel music offerings ever produced in local circles. 

Born at Tshithuthuni village in the Thengwe area, Ragimana started his music career at an early age. “I was only eight years old when I became the lead singer in our Sunday school choir at Mangaya Deliverance Christian Church. Everyone was delighted with my voice, and I started realizing that I have a special vocal talent. At the age of 15, I joined Thasululo Ministries at Makonde and during my first Sunday service, I was asked to be part of the church worship team. People continued to praise me for my vocal ability and that helped me to gain more confidence in my singing career.”

Ragimana said he was singing at a wedding in December last year when guests could not stop asking for more. “After the wedding, everyone requested me to record an album, because they enjoyed my music. That is where I realized that I must do something to make sure that my music reaches a wider audience. I then went to the studio in March and started working on my first album, It is His Grace, which was released last month. I’m happy the album is receiving massive airplay on regional and national radio stations.”

The 10-track album, which is a must have for all gospel music lovers, contains the songs Ri dzithanzi, All I See, Vha Mudzimu a divhaho zwothe, Zwo ri fanela, Haho, For me to live, Medley, U do ima na nne Yesu, Nnyite wa mashudu and Naho ri tshi tshimbila.

Ragimana said he performed at various venues in Limpopo and Gauteng to promote the album. “The response I get is overwhelming. I am now planning to convene a gathering of worshippers where I will invite supporting artists to come and celebrate with me for my musical achievements. The event will take place at Tshilamba Town Hall in March next year.”

A second-year electrical engineering student, Ragimana emphasized the importance of education before anyone fully ventured into music. “When you have a career, you have something to lean on when your music career hits a snag.”
