Debut album for Bra Ace

His real name is Takalani Nelson Nemapate, but he is widely known by his stage name, Bra Ace. His attempts to have his music recorded over the past years have finally paid off.

He was first seen in music circles in 2009. He then joined Mr Tshiambara’s band as backing vocalist. He left the band and went solo the following year.

After realizing that his music was mature enough for recording, Bra Ace went to several recording studios to have his music recorded, but that was not to be. According to him, he lost a large amount of money while moving from one recording studio to the other.

He said that one of his friends introduced him to the Masana Recording Studio in Tshiawelo, Johannesburg, early last year. That is where his debut album, Safe sex, was recorded five months ago. The album was released early this month.

Comprising 10 songs, Safe sex has the ingredients of taking Bra Ace’s name to the highest level in the local music industry. Some of the songs that have the potential to make the album an instant hit with fans include Education, Life is moving on, Ndi tshimbila na mashango and the title track, Safe sex.

The 53-year-old resident of Mbilwi village said that the album had already sold more than 800 copies, despite the fact that it was still new on the market. He further stated that the album was self-marketed.  

Bra Ace said that he would be performing live at various occasions including wedding ceremonies and farewell functions in the next weeks as part of his road show to promote the album. He severely criticized people who copy the music and sell copies for as little as R10 per copy, saying that was the reason why many musicians died poor.
