Mascots become popular in Musina

To bring entertainment and stimulation to the children of the town, the VCC Mascots and Kids Festival's team brought joy and happiness to hundreds of children, parents and guardians at Musina a fortnight ago.

“In our minds, this was only a build-up event towards the VCC Mascots and Kids Festival 2019, which will be held at the Mphephu Resort on 28 September this year,” said the festival director and managing director of VCC Music, Mr Tshilidzi Bobodi. “We were overwhelmed by the turnout of the people. This really shows that this programme is making more sense to parents and children who continue to find value and entertainment in the activities that we provide during the event.”

The event's host, VCC Music, said that they had noticed a gap in children’s entertainment in the province and decided to fill it. He said that when children were provided with suitable space for entertainment that catered for their needs, chances that they would one day abuse substances or get involved in crime were slim.

“Therefore, our aim is not limited to entertainment and stimulation, but we also aim to educate children through the mascot, music and games,” Bobodi said. He stated that when children were exposed to positive fun from an early age, it created a situation where they would find no opportunity to seek pleasures or entertainment through negative inducements.

“If we leave them to play in the streets, often without supervision, they tend to seek ways or avenues to dispel boredom,” he said. “Some of the activities that they might end up doing may not be beneficial to them. So, parents report to us that their children tend to talk about and discuss the activities from the event long after the event had passed. They can't wait for a next event to take place.”

Bobodi thanked all the parents for bringing their children to the events and for participating in the activities alongside the children. “Most parents were taking part in the activities of the day, which really shows that we all have this side of children inside us – a soft spot of carefree and jolly enjoyment,” he said.
