Bono praised for Siya Kolisi's drawing

Bono Siaga has never been interested in anything except art and this passion is evident in all her splendid drawings.

Bono’s art speaks volumes and her latest artwork of the Springbok captain Siya Kolisi is testimony to her talent. When asked why she had drawn him, Bono said: “Siya Kolisi, together with all his teammates, have made South Africa proud by winning the Rugby World Cup in Japan. So, I decided to honour him with the work of my hands.”

The 24-year-old resident of Luheni village is a fine artist who believes that her drawings represent much more than just lines on canvas. To her a drawing means expressing the deep inner feelings that she cannot relate in words. “Drawing is more like breathing to me. I can’t live without it,” she said.

After completing her studies, she struggled to find an internship in order to obtain her diploma in business management at Capricorn FET College, so she embarked on a journey of finding herself. That was when she realised that she had a passion for art. “I am inspired by life and the beauty of different faces and that is why I specialize in portraits. Capturing emotions with pencil on paper is what I enjoy the most,” she said. She uses colour pencils and acrylic paint to do her drawings.

This full-time artist’s source of inspiration comes from a well-known artist, Mr Avhashoni Mainganye. “I was motivated to continue with my drawings after meeting him because he exposed me to the world of art,” she said.

She went to Miriyavhavha Technical High School and then moved to Thengwe High School where she matriculated in 2014. She currently aspires to have her own art gallery or a school of art. Those interested in her drawings can phone her on 072 474 3774.

The 22-year-old Mbulaheni (Gary) Ridovhona has been passionate about journalism to the extent that he would buy himself a copy of weekly Univen students' newsletter, Our Voice. After reading, he would write stories about his rural village, Mamvuka, and submit them to the very newsletter for publication.
