Writers laud first-time author during book launch

“This book is laden with the relevant information that says that it is possible to turn around one's life for the better financially by working harder towards achieving one's dreams.”

Ishmael Mugodi was speaking during the launch of Azwindini Lutendo Masuwa's book, Unshakable, which was held recently at Maangani village.

“I read the book from cover to cover, and I stand here to tell you that it had opened up my mind to a wide range of perceptions and viewpoints when it comes to approaching one's financial life,” Mugodi said, who is also a writer in his own right. “ If each one of us were to follow their dreams, we would have been living in a more prosperous country, but then that's what we choose to ignore. We are copycats and not innovative. We need to 'discover' ourselves as that's what Unshakable tells us.”

A prolific author, Richardt Rambau, reminded people that being born into a poor family should not determine one's future. “Being born into a poor family is not a choice, but dying poor is a choice,” he said. “Time has come for you to step out of your comfort zones and start shaping your life.”

Masuwa took to the stage and extended his gratitude to all the people who had helped shape him into the man that he had become in society. His book aims to educate readers on investments. “The prime reason I wrote this book was to share insight with regard to financial intelligence and offer the best knowledge and wisdom that assisted ancient people and still do in our generation,” he said.

He believes that the education it gives cannot be taught at school and, no matter how educated people could be and the extent of the salaries people earn, these would not be helpful or go a long way if people were not 'financially literate'.

“Financial problems continue to haunt us because we lack financial management and other avenues of generating finances or monies, apart from the 7-5 strategised employment,” he said. “The book will actually make one to graduate from working for money and beginning to make money work for them.”

Masuwa holds a bachelors' degree in criminal justice from the University of Venda and an honours degree in criminal justice from the University of Limpopo. He currently runs an African Institute for training and consultation, a company that helps in training people how to invest their money on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

Tshifhiwa Mukwevho

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper. He is a prolific writer who published his first book, titled A Traumatic Revenge in 2011. It focusses on life on the street and how to survive amidst poverty. His second book titled The Violent Gestures of Life was published in 2014.
