A versatile artist who wears many hats

Meet Musina’s multi-talented star who wears many hats. Lucky Mashudu Munyembane, known professionally as StageBox Breathe, is a singer, songwriter, photographer, and model.

Born 30 years ago, Munyembane has released three full albums, Sterio, All My Promises, Long Walk to Stardom and various singles in his ten years in the music industry. His music is a combination of rhythm and blues, pop, hip-hop and dancehall reggae. He is currently working on a new album, entitled Breathe, under a new record label, One Love Records, to be released this year after the lockdown period. On his coming album, he worked with well-known musicians such as Mcdee Madhara, Slender Boy and Sparkles RSA.

Munyembane, who has performed at various high-profile events, which include the ANC victory celebrations, Musina Annual Show, 2016 AfriDzonga Awards, 2018 Phalaphala FM Birthday celebration and the 2019 Annual Musina Rocks Festival, says surviving in the music and showbiz industry takes hard work, perseverance and dedication. “It is not easy to succeed because of the stiff competition in this industry. However, if you set achievable goals, manage your time effectively and stay focused, you can reach greater heights.” 

The 2019 City Awards best newcomer nominee and the 2017 Clicks Got Talent 3rd runner-up, Munyembane also has a good record in modelling. This includes the 2015 Mr Musina second prince and being in the top five of the 2019 Brighter Future SA competition.

Although his music receives airplay on the local community radio stations, Munyembane is worried that the so-called “big radio stations” give him limited or no airplay at all. “This is the challenge that many local musicians are crying about. But I will not give up because my music is very good. I will keep on pushing until I get the desired airplay. I call upon other artists who are not afforded enough airplay not to give up because better things will come one day.”
