Gospel star spreads message of hope

Corona i do fhola (We will be healed of corona). This is the message of seasoned local gospel artist Ndivhuwo Nemakonde of Folovhodwe village outside Musina. He is spreading the message through his single, entitled Corona i do fhola, which was released last week.

Asked how he managed to record the song during the lockdown period when everyone was required to stay at home, Nemakonde said he and his producer, DJ Godzilla Molea of G Records in Musina, used a system that allowed the artist to do so remotely.

“With the advancement of technology, it is possible to record a song without going to the studio. I sent a voice note melody to my producer, who then produced instrumental beats in his home studio. He then sent me the instruments via email, and I rehearsed the vocals.  After enough rehearsal, I recorded my vocals at home and sent them back to the producer, who then worked on refining the vocals through some software and mixed them with the original instruments. He then arranged and mastered the music in my absence and sent everything through to me for final approval.”

Born into a Christian family, Nemakonde started doing music at a very young age. “I used to sing in a church choir at the local United African Apostolic Church (UAAC) and took a lead during the music periods at school. Every time when I sang at church or school, everyone would comment that I had a good voice. My teachers and church elders encouraged me to take music seriously and since then, I have never looked back.”

Nemakonde, who has worked with well-known gospel artists such as Rofhiwa Manyaga and Gospel Joe, said he believed the corona crisis would soon come to an end. “I am a child of God who believes in prayer. I have no doubt that God will soon heal our land and that is why I’m also adding my prayer through music. We will definitely recover from this crisis, but the most important thing is to keep on praying.”

The gospel sensation, who draws inspiration from seasoned artists such as Lufuno Dagada, Thili Maumela, Rofhiwa Manyaga and Takie Ndou, urged young artists not to give up on their musical dreams.
