Mamuhohi sings to praise, encourage and comfort

The multi-talented Maanda Petrus Mamuhohi is considered to be a pastor in the music ministry and his speciality is songs of praise and worship.

He is a songwriter and a keen author, with a book soon to be released. “I write songs, arrange and sing them,” he said. “I also play music instruments such as the acoustic guitar, bass guitar and keyboard.”

Mamuhohi, who resides at Mandiwana village in Nzhelele, discovered his love of music in 1982, when he used to sing choral music at school. “In my Christian home, singing was a norm,” he said. “Even today, I have come to use music as a tool to praise and worship God, to encourage and comfort people, as well as to inspire and equip people.”

He believes that meaningful music in a country such as South Africa can actually stabilise minds, guide the simple, activate potential and reassure the victims of crimes that they did not choose what had happened to them. “I have become a mentor to many singers and non-singers,” he said. “As a singer, I have role models too, like evangelist Jimmy Swaggart. His long-term commitment to serving God by ministering to his people motivates me. His tenacity and courage are adorable.”

Mamuhosi’s rise to fame as a singer came in 1995 with the release of his full-length album titled Oh worship the Lord. “I think 1995 was my greatest year,” he said. “As a new kid on the block, I rose up to what many termed ‘sudden fame’. However, my involvement with other major responsibilities like the ministry did not permit me to service a music stage fully, and I am glad about it. I regret nothing; it's called prioritisation.”

His debut album was followed by more projects, namely Jesus the Lion of Judah (1999), Holy Holy is the Lord of Hosts (2004), Lulimi (2008) and Healing Hand (2010). “I let God use me through music to heal, encourage and guide lives. I encourage people to purchase my music,” he said.

His music is available online, on CD and USB. Mamuhohi can be followed on Facebook and contacted on Tel 083 656 3892.
