The Rise of E-Phoenix

Nkateko Hlekani, better known as E-Phoenix, uses rap lyrics with upbeat tunes to communicate with people. He believes that music can achieve more than just be a source of entertainment.

This rapper and producer is also a skilled songwriter, as is evident not only in his own songs, but in the songs of other artists that he has written. “I started rapping in 2015 when I was in high school and took part in rap battles and cyphers. That was when I was hyped to be one of the best hip hop battlers,” he said. “My music career found its actual feet in 2020 when I worked on and released my debut EP, titled The Rise.”

His rap style in The Rise is uniquely expressed and exudes quick and fast-paced lyrics. “While I am belting out super good lyrics in my own unique fashion, I am still able to tell a story to the conscious hip-hop listener,” he said.

The Rise was followed by multiple singles, including Lazy, which was released on all streaming platforms in 2020. It was the highly rated single Hotwave that earned him massive respect and popularity as it was played in 11 countries, including South Africa, the USA, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, France, the UK and Spain.

“In January this year, I released my first album, titled Keepin It Real, on streaming platforms like iTunes, Spotify and YouTube,” he said.

The album instantly became a favourite among his many fans, with hits such as What Is Love rocketing higher on music platforms.

E-Phoenix is a versatile artist and has also worked with other up-and-coming artists, such as LA-AK, Flow Versatile and Baby Boy. He can be reached on Tel 062 912 1372.
