Seasoned media practitioner and artist Wilson Dzebu has promised to bring changes to the local community radio station, Musina FM. This comes after Dzebu was recruited by the station management to produce and compile music for their reggae music programme that airs on Sundays between 11:00 and 13:00.

Dzebu started his voluntary role last week. The reggae programme, which is presented by vibrant young presenter Frans Kwinda, commands a huge following.

Musina FM station manager Selina Phiri said they were honoured that Dzebu had accepted their invitation to assist them at the radio station. “Mr Dzebu has a very impressive track record in the media industry, and we strongly believe that his presence will add value to our reggae music programme. As a recording artist himself, he is also very knowledgeable about the music industry, which makes him a preferred candidate for this role. He came at the right time when young people want someone who can mentor them to realize their dreams in the radio industry.”

Kwinda said working with Dzebu was a privilege. “I have always looked upon him as my role model, but I never thought that one day we would work together under one roof. I have learnt a lot of things in just one day while we were preparing for last Sunday’s revamped programme, which was totally restructured to meet the needs of the local listeners. Indeed, we have acquired a valuable asset in Dzebu, and we will utilize his knowledge to the best of our abilities.”

Dzebu, better known as Ras Willie in the reggae music fraternity, was excited about the new challenge. “Despite my busy schedule, I will make time to make sure that I execute this responsibility to the best of my ability. It is important to plough back into the community,” he said. “My primary aim is to structure the show in such a way that it meets the aspirations of the local listeners. The most important thing is to compile music that promotes local artists and line them up for radio interviews to connect them with their fans.”

Dzebu stressed that he will not be involved in the management and running of the radio station. “I will only be producing and compiling music for the said programme, without being involved in the management and running of the station. My new responsibility does not even require me to physically set foot at the radio station because I can do everything in the comfort of my home and send to the presenter electronically before he goes on air.”
