Ndivho makes her mark in radio

Choice FM’s Ndivho Makhwanya is making her mark in the broadcasting industry with hard work, perseverance, and a positive attitude.

The road to success has been a long and winding one for this 22-year-old radio personality from the dusty Manini village. Makhwanya presents The Driver on Choice FM from Monday to Friday, 14:00 to 18:00, and the Vodacom Next Level Top 20 on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 14:00.

The station’s popularity has grown tremendously in the barely two years since Makhwanya joined the team, thanks to her emphasis on promoting her mother tongue (Tshivenda) without compromise.

She had started her radio career in community radio and allowed the experience to ground her as the excellent, hardworking presenter that she has become today. She always saw a radio presenter in herself, and always heard a radio voice each time she spoke or sang.

“My programme is more informative than entertaining, and I make sure that the language I use is understandable to everyone. When it comes to radio, one has to be very careful with language because it is the only way of communicating with the listeners.” 

Radio gives Makhwanya an opportunity to interact with big shots in political, social, art and sporting circles globally. However, popularity did not come easily for her. “I am what I am because of my listeners, and I will never forget to appreciate their continuous support. My achievements are through their constructive criticism, and, with their support, I believe I will go far.”

Makhwanya tries to make sure that each of her listeners becomes a part of the show. “My secret for success is hard work, effective time management and the desire to succeed,” she said. “I have always believed that, no matter how many shots I have missed, I’m going to make the next one.”

Kaizer Nengovhela

Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
