Kwinda dreams big

From a very young age, Emmanuel Kwinda always wanted to sit behind a radio microphone. Today, he is a very accomplished newsreader at Choice and Energy FM.

Kwinda was born in Ngudza Village and started his education at Ngudza Primary. He passed his matric at Kolokoshani Secondary and registered for a diploma in journalism at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). Kwinda also worked as newsreader for Phalaphala FM and is a freelance journalist for the Northern Media Group.

During an exclusive interview, he told Limpopo Mirror that his love of radio started when he was just a schoolboy. A great deal of his inspiration came from Phalaphala FM presenters, such as Fhatuwani Calvin Munyangane and the late Mbulungeni Mafenya Mphaphuli. “I fell in love with radio during my high school years, listening to the newsreaders at Phalaphala FM. That was when I knew what I wanted to do one day, because it is a good career. I have always been passionate about radio,” he said.

Kwinda is determined to work hard to realise his dreams. “My goal is to end up working at bigger radio stations and to be the best newsreader on radio. It will take hard work to get there, but dreams come true when you put more effort in. The sky is the limit!”

When asked what qualities a radio presenter should have, he replied: “Be authentic, because people love to listen to presenters who are genuine. You also have to be creative and know how to manage time. As a radio presenter, you have to leave your bad moods behind before you go on air. And always be proud of who you are and where you come from.”

When Kwinda is not working, he loves to read and write. His message to young people is to use education to their advantage. “Go to school, find out what it is you want from life, and go after it by studying hard. Never let anyone tell you that something is impossible; believe in yourself.”
