Candice enjoys a double celebration

Twenty-two-year-old Takalani Happy Ndwambi, also known by her stage name of Candice, knows how to multi-task and tap the most from life. Not only is she studying engineering at Vhembe TVET College, but she is also part-time into motor insurance on the one side, while dabbling in music on the other, and she seems to doing quite well.

While celebrating her birthday with family and friends at the Hook Up Café in Ha-Dumasi village last Saturday, she also celebrated the release of her first Amapiano EP, titled Basket full of Memories.

“I am very passionate about music,” Candice said. “Everything I do has a musical element to it. My parents used to shout at me for making noise with my loud singing and loud music playing in the house.”

Basket full of Memories features fellow artists such as MissyFab, Tyro Deep SA, Backstreet 90s and JR Player and songs such as Tshedza tsha mbilu, Dakalo, Midnight, and Candice.

The young artist is a resident of Dzanani Manngo village in the Nzhelele area. “I grew up listening to Hip-Hop, RnB and gospel, so my music is influenced by different genres,” she said.  

Candice has a part-time job as motor insurance specialist, but making people dance is what she enjoys most. She even shoots music videos for other artists, and says that the studio has become almost like her second home now.

“I want to use my talents to write different stories for my own benefit, as well as my fellow youths here in Limpopo first, and then move to different places across the world,” she said.

Tshifhiwa Mukwevho

Tshifhiwa Given Mukwevho was born in 1984 in Madombidzha village, not far from Louis Trichardt in the Limpopo Province. After submitting articles for roughly a year for Limpopo Mirror's youth supplement, Makoya, he started writing for the main newspaper. He is a prolific writer who published his first book, titled A Traumatic Revenge in 2011. It focusses on life on the street and how to survive amidst poverty. His second book titled The Violent Gestures of Life was published in 2014.
