Thabo wows art lovers in Cape Town

Local painter Thabo Modillane is ascending the ladder of fame as he continues to showcase his art in national galleries and art-exhibition centres.

Thabo is among 15 South African artists who were granted the opportunity a fortnight ago to exhibit their work at the Young Blood Gallery in Cape Town until mid-November.

“All this is incredible. I’m glad to exhibit with the other talented young artists,” he said. “I had exhibited all around Gauteng; now I am in the Cape.” Thabo was deeply touched by the support and exposure offered by the organisers of the exhibition, which is so crucial to artists.

“The Young Blood Gallery provides new artists with such organised competition,” he said. “The organising committee gave me an amazingly large display area for my 11 art pieces, opening the market for me. I’m delighted to gain so much growth in my career.”

He tackles contemporary subject matter, and his fresh, daring, and authentic work leaves an instant and undeniable impression. “My focus is painting and sculpting. Art is my life. I’m inspired by my environment, my own experiences and personal struggles.”

Thabo was born in Madombidzha village, but currently lives in Pretoria. He discovered his talent at the age of nine, while attending school at Tshilwavhusiku Primary in Madombidzha village. “I loved to draw pictures from early on, and people noticed and admired my art,” he said. “From there on, I continued to impress both teachers and learners throughout my schooling days.”

After school, he studied art at Tshwane University of Technology. He is the overall winner of the Ghorbany Annual Art & Design Award 2021.

Thabo Modillane is available on most social media platforms and can be reached either on [email protected] or Tel 071 512 5332.
