The fact that Tshivhangwaho Madamalala has not been in circulation for a very long time does not mean he has given up on his music career. After several years out of the spotlight, the man is back with a vengeance and says he intends to stay.

Madamalala, whose last album was released in 2014, has returned to the studio to record his 15th album, which will be released later this year.

“I’m here to stay, because I was born to entertain and educate the public with my music,” he said. To give his fans a taste of what is to come, he has just released a single from the album, called Ndo vhuya ndo vhuya, and the track already seems to be making waves.

Madamalala, who hails from Vuvha village outside Tshilamba, made a name for himself with songs such as Bambeloni, Passport and Kujunior in the late nineties. He calls his music Tshingo-Nkwasa, as it is a mixture of Tshingondo and Kwasakwasa. Most of his previous albums had been recorded at Gramma Records in Zimbabwe.

Madamalala commanded a huge following in the local music industry, as well as across several borders. He used to host live performances in countries such as Zimbabwe, Botswana, Malawi and Mozambique.

“After the band, The Sweet Mash Family, and I released our last album in 2014, it was difficult for us to re-converge as I was working far from home. The band members went their own ways, but we never stopped thinking of ourselves as a musical family. That is why we got together again at the end of last year to record another full album. We didn’t change our name; we are still called Tshivhangwaho MM and The Sweet Mash Family.”

Madamalala, who is the lead guitarist for the band, says his band is busy preparing for live performances to promote the envisaged album. “We will undertake several live performances to re-unite with our loyal fans, who have been disappointed by our absence. This time we are here to stay for a long time to come.”

The single, Ndo vhuya ndo vhuya, is available in digital online music stores. For hard copies of the track and bookings for public performances, Madamalala can be contacted on 074 770 3416 (voice calls and WhatsApp).
