Andrew M to release two new albums at once

For a musician to record more than one album at the same time may sound like biting off more than he can chew, but local gospel singer Andrew Makuya, or Andrew M as he is known, is doing just that.

The prolific artist from Hamakuya Fandani, outside Thohoyandou, is simultaneously working on two new albums, each with 12 tracks and both to be released in April this year. The albums, titled Nndededze and Ndi tshidziwe respectively, are at an advanced stage of production and Andrew M strongly believes that they will be received well by gospel lovers.

Andrew M is not a novice in the gospel music fraternity, having released three previous albums, namely Fulufhelo langa (2014), Jesu wanga (2016), and Ndi ene (2018). “Judged by the success of my previous albums, I have no doubt that my latest two albums will do well too. It has taken me two years to prepare, as I allowed myself enough time to work on them. I just know that the music it contains will appeal to my audience,” he said.

To whet his fans’ appetite, Andrew M has released two singles (the title tracks from each album) and he reckons that they are doing very well so far. “I’m happy that they are performing well in the market. I have done some interviews at different radio stations in promoting the songs, and it satisfies my soul that they are being played on air on a regular basis. I’m taking it as a sign that the two full albums will perform beyond expectation. People love my music. My fans are already pressuring me into releasing the albums, but I need to wait for the right time to do so.”

Andrew M started his musical career in a church choir when he was still a little boy, leading the choral songs. He was inspired by the music of Rapson Rambuwani who, according to him, was anointed by the Holy Spirit. He has also worked with seasoned gospel artists such as Lufuno Dagada and Newie Nthabalala. When he is not making music, he enjoys photography, videography, and graphic design.
