The new golden voice on Musina FM's airwaves, Pertunia Muleya, has already won the hearts of many listeners.

Musina FM's new 'golden' addition

She has only been working in the broadcasting industry for two months, but Pertunia Muleya has already become the darling of Musina FM’s listeners.

However, for the 30-year-old newcomer, success did not come instantly as she had worked hard in preparation, before her career in the broadcasting industry was finally launched. “I saw an advertisement by Musina FM for a presenter and news reader in December last year, and I immediately knew that this was my opportunity to realise my dream in the broadcasting industry. I wasted no time to apply and was very happy when they invited me for interviews in January this year. I passed the interview with flying colours,” said the golden-voiced lady, who reads the Sepedi news and presents the jazz and blues show on Sundays between 13:00 and 15:00.

Muleya, who holds a diploma in Educare, says her talent was unearthed by her teachers at Bonwa Udi Primary and Musina High School, back when she was a girl. “Teachers always encouraged me to take part in poetry, drama and debate, both in primary and high school. I would stand in front of the teachers and learners with confidence and received a standing ovation whenever I performed. I represented my schools at various debate competitions, making them proud with my impressive performance. At that time, I did not know that this was preparing me for my breakthrough in the broadcasting industry, and I am proud to reap the rewards of my hard work today.”

She says that, in the short space of time that she has been in the broadcasting industry, she has already learnt a thing or two, such as the importance of research and reading informative material to broaden her knowledge. “When you use social media as an added platform of communication, you must try to be ahead at all times, so that what you share with your listeners offers something new. Once you have captured the listeners’ attention and are able to keep them glued to your show, you must strive to keep them. It helps when you provide them with new content that relates to their everyday lives.”

Musina FM’s station manager, Justice Langa, described Muleya as a true example of how dedication can breed success. “She has been here for just two months now, but the impact she has made so far on both the radio station and the listeners is overwhelming. The future looks bright for her, and we will continue to give her the necessary support she needs to grow.”
