Musiiwa Makumbi releases a new film: Last Namba

Musiiwa Makumbi, a resident of Vleifontein in the Lagos area, is building a reputation as one of the best local filmmakers the region has ever produced. He has just released his latest film, Last Namba, which tells the story of a convict who tries his best to make amends for what he had done.

According to Makumbi, his love of filmmaking developed while he was working in Kimberly, way back in 2008.  At that stage, he was an active member of the Kimberly branch for the Christian Revival Church. He joined the film production team for the church towards the end of that year.

Makumbi later formed his own company, MSW Film Studios. He moved to Dzanani in the Nzhelele Valley and produced several Venda movies between 2009 and 2016.

His debut film to be screened on one of the SABC channels was Rotshinyani. The film was followed by Yesu Wanga in 2019. Yesu Wanga takes place in a country where Christians are persecuted. In the film, a group of girls are seen enduring the pain of being tortured while others are killed for not turning their backs on their religion.

According to Makumbi, his new release, Last Namba, is also expected to attract the attention of the TV stations. Last Namba is about a guy called Lucky, who just came back from prison and now wants to sort out his life and fix things with his girlfriend. His friend wants him to go back to a life of crime, something which Lucky vehemently refuses to do. Realising that Lucky does not want to listen to him, his friend decides to gang up with a group of boys who end up kidnapping Lucky’s girlfriend.

Some of the actors in Last Namba include Humbulani Malema, Evelyn Nethononda, Rudzani Masevhe, Thapelo Tshisikhawe, Martin Musetha and Constance Hobyane. The film is available on YouTube.

Makumbi can be reached by phoning him on 0729783316 or 0614232993 or [email protected].
