DJ Basemark releases another Amapiano hit

“To create good music, you don’t need inspiration, just passion.” This sentiment comes from Amapiano king DJ Basemark, who has just released his latest single, titled Lerato (Love).

DJ Basemark, whose real name is Fhulufhelo Thavhanyedza, was born and bred at Ngovhela Phindula Ha Ratshikhopha in the Thulamela area in Thohoyandou. He is a self-taught pianist and has not looked back since he released his debut song, Mama Africa, during the first hard lockdown at the start of the Covid pandemic.

Asked what had inspired him to call his single Lerato, Basemark said sharing and spreading love through music were very important. “I'm definitely someone who embraces love, so it wasn’t a difficult task to come up with such a jam. The song will get the audiences dancing, while celebrating love at the same time,” he said.

Lerato is an Amapiano mix with a very distinct touch of saxophone, featuring Songbird Poetic Leester, Neelo and Jay Sax. It tells the story about the difficulties and challenges he had encountered as a social being and how he had come to conquer [them] despite unfavourable circumstances. “It’s an interesting story, but I am not keen to tell here lest I twist it,” he joked and added that the song was performing well so far, despite the fact that it had not been properly marketed.

“My supporters can anticipate more good music from me. I’m currently discussing a collaboration in this genre with one of the best Tshivenda songs artists. We’re just finalizing a date for recording,” he said.

Lerato is now accessible on different social media platforms, including Spotify and YouTube.
