All 'Melodic Gee-BTR' wants for his fans is to have fun

Rosalanavho Mavhunga, known as “Melodic Gee-BTR” in music circles, has finally released his latest Hip Hop EP.

“All I want is for my fans to have fun,” said the enigmatic entertainer. His latest creation is called Outsiders.

The self-taught artist from Phadzima village started his music career in 2012. He was still very young but quickly fell in love with making music. “The moment I realised that this was what I wanted to do was when the fans responded to my music and called out for more,” he said.

For Mavhunga, making music comes naturally. “I can be sitting at home and decide to create something, and I know it will definitely be a hit.”

However, he admits that it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to become an established artist, and the profession is full of challenges. “The worst experience I’ve had so far was when I got booked once and was told I’d get paid on arrival, only to end up not being paid at all. But things seem to be improving. I get bookings throughout the year, and it helps me to sustain myself and my family,” he said.

Mavhunga draws his energy from his fans, especially from the enjoyment they get from his music. “I’m receiving massive feedback, which makes me happy and proud,” he said.

He currently does not have a mentor. “There are just some people I learn a lot from — both inside and outside the industry. I’m simply drawn to greatness,” he said.

As for his songwriting process, Mavhunga keeps it simple. “I listen to beats, then write what I feel. Most of the time, my music is influenced by what I’m going through or what the person next to me is going through,” he explained.
