With two impressive 2023 solo singles, Ndi Nne and He or She, under his belt, musician Ntendeni Mukondeleli Nephawe is fast becoming one of the hottest names on the local music scene. Known in music circles as Mutendas Junior, he has dispelled any doubts that he might be a "one-hit wonder" with the release of his latest Amapiano hit single, Misi Yothe.

The beautiful track, a collaboration between Mutendas Junior and his father, Mutendas, was released on 12 September 2024. The vocals were recorded by Killer Kid and Dash Instrumentals at Paradise Studio, while the beats were produced by The Real Prosper. Mutendas Junior himself played the lead guitar on the track.

When asked why he had decided to collaborate with his father on an Amapiano single, Mutendas Junior explained that it had been a natural choice. “We are a musical family. My mother, Mariana, is an Afro-pop musician, and my father, Mutendas, needs no introduction. I learned everything from my parents and always dreamed of doing a project with my father. My father comes from the old school, and I introduced the piano to show that we can do any type of music, the Mutendas way,” he said.

Mutendas Junior added that his goal was to take his father’s legacy to the next level and prove that the Mutendas style could adapt to any music genre.

The track took them just three weeks to complete. It also serves as a lead-up to a full collaborative album with his father, which may be released before Christmas.

“I still have a lot more to offer the music world. Judging by the warm reception the track is getting and the pressure from fans, I might fast-track the release of my full album with my father. My phone never stops ringing, and we are receiving accolades from all sides,” Mutendas Junior said.
