Landman guest speaker at prestigious gala evening

 

The Soutpansberg Chamber of Business and Tourism will host their prestigious annual gala evening on 21 October, which will once again coincide with their annual awards ceremony.

The aim of the awards evening is to give recognition for outstanding achievements during the 2017 year. In this regard, several awards will be made during the evening, including the Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Corporate Manager of the Year Award, Tourism Salt Shaker of the Year Award, Local Business(person) of the Year Award, General “Performer of the Year” Award and Outstanding Services Certificate (Health, Education, Police Service and Public Official).

The function will take place at North Gate Lodge, starting at 18:30 for 19:00. The cost is R200 per person, with guest speaker JP Landman.

Landman is a self-employed analyst of politico-economical trends. He focuses on trends in politics, economics, demography and social capital. He is a visiting professor at the University of the Free State, and he consults for Nedbank Private Wealth, one of SA’s largest private wealth managers. 

In 2013, Landman was elected a Public Policy Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Centre for International Scholars in Washington DC and he spent four months there until Feb 2014. In August 2013, he published the book The Long View, an analysis of trends in South Africa. The book is in its fourth print. 

In September 2015, Landman was appointed by the President as a member of the National Planning Commission (NPC). The appointment is for a term of five years. Landman has a BA LLB from Stellenbosch University (1978), he studied Economics at Harvard (1998 and again in 2005), and obtained a MPhil in Future Studies (cum laude) from Stellenbosch (2003). In 2009, he completed a course at Oxford University Continuing Education on the economies of the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India & China).

Andries van Zyl

Andries joined the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror in April 1993 as a darkroom assistant. Within a couple of months he moved over to the production side of the newspaper and eventually doubled as a reporter. In 1995 he left the newspaper group and travelled overseas for a couple of months. In 1996, Andries rejoined the Zoutpansberger as a reporter. In August 2002, he was appointed as News Editor of the Zoutpansberger, a position he holds until today.
