Domestic violence may have caused another death

Residents of the Waterval township experienced a huge shock on Monday when it was announced that a 30-year-old woman had allegedly been attacked and killed by her boyfriend on Sunday night.

According to the police, Patricia Nwandzule (30) was allegedly attacked on her way from a shebeen to their home.

The victim's aunt, Ms Norah Ramanyimi, said that the family was greatly saddened about their niece's death. According to her, the couple used to have arguments on several occasions.

According to the information made available by the deceased’s family and the police, the suspect had allegedly confessed to killing Nwandzule in his house on Sunday night.

Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the police’s spokesperson, said the deceased's body was found on Monday morning inside the room by her mother-in-law. Ngoepe indicated that wounds were found on the deceased's head.

He added that the police had subsequently opened a case of murder. “We also managed to arrest the suspect the next day. We urge community members to consult or engage third parties like elders and counsellors when faced with problems, to avoid such incidents,” he said.

The suspect appeared in court yesterday (Thursday) at Waterval.
