Man shot dead after argument at tavern

The fatal shooting of a man at the Tshakhuma Tshitavhadulu tavern on Saturday afternoon has sent shock waves through the area.

The news that Ndivheni Ligaraba (39) was shot spread like wildfire and hundreds of curious people swarmed to the scene. At the tavern, many continued with their drinking as if nothing had happened, while others surrounded the cordoned-off scene.

Emergency personnel were summoned, but they could only confirm that the man was already dead when they arrived at the scene.

Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the incident. He said that the victim had been identified as a local resident. From what could be gathered, an argument ensued between Ndivheni Ligaraba and another man. The argument allegedly resulted in a fight, during which Libaraba was shot.

Mojapelo said that when the police arrived at the scene, the victim was already dead. A suspect was arrested and the police confiscated what appears to be an illegal firearm. The suspect, Ronnie Tshipota (29) appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate court on 17 August. His case was postponed to 15 October for further investigation.

The brother of the deceased, Mr Thomas Libaraba, said that the incident had caught them off-guard. “It came as a shock to us, having to lose such a family member like him. We are very sad,” he said.

Libaraba was overwhelmed with grief and said that the family members have no idea as to what could have happened. He said that Ndivheni will be buried on Thursday (19th) at Tshakhuma.
