Another fatal stabbing at local tavern

A 21-year-old man allegedly stabbed and killed a 19-year-old man in the vicinity of a local tavern at Gogobole on Saturday (21st).

Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said that the suspect, who was later identified as Kgotso Nndwambi, had allegedly stabbed Mulalo Mbodi with a knife. “Mbodi ran out of the tavern, but he collapsed in the street,” Mojapelo said. He added that the victim was certified dead on the spot.

Mojapelo said that the deceased and the suspect had apparently had an argument at the tavern. Although other people present tried to intervene, the suspect allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the deceased in the chest. “When we arrived at the scene, Mbodi was lying dead on the ground and the suspect had run away,” Mojapelo said.

The suspect handed himself to the police on Monday, 23 August. Mojapelo confirmed that the suspect had appeared in the Magistrate's Court in Tshilwavhusiku on 24 August and that his case had been postponed to 31 August for further investigations. He remains in custody.

The sister of the deceased, Ms Ivy Mafunisa, said that they were very traumatised by the incident. “We fail to understand why he was killed,” she said.

Mbodi will be buried on Friday, 27 August, at Gogobole.
