The Miss Waterval 2019 winners are Masingita Hobyane, Jessica Tshikhuthulu, Nsovo Ngwenya and Jabulani Nghunyulu.

“My dream is to win Miss World”

 

A student at the Vhembe TVET College, Nsovo Ngwenya, was crowned Miss Waterval along with Jessica Tshikhuthulu (first princess) and Jabulani Nghunyulu (second princess) at the Waterval Community Hall on Saturday.

Ngwenya received R1 000 cash, a R300 Clicks voucher, Brazilian hair to the value of R2 500, perfume, a make-up kit, a sash and a crown. The first and second princesses also received cash prizes, Clicks vouchers, Brazilian hair, sashes and crowns.

Masingita Hobyane was crowned Miss Personality. 

An ecstatic 20-year-old Ngwenya said that she was thrilled, excited, and over the moon.” I give all the glory to my God who made it possible; indeed, switshembiso swa xikwembu aswi weri ahansi (God never fails to deliver on his promises)."

"I was very determined about winning this title. I would like to use this tittle to be the voice of the youth, running different campaigns such as encouraging the youth to refrain from criminal activities, discouraging teenage pregnancies and drug abuse," she said.

Miss Waterval was initiated in 2016 and aims to empower the youth to focus on their dreams. "We aim to empower the youth and encourage them not to expose themselves to drugs and teenage pregnancy," said Takalani Masuluke, the founder of the pageant.

"We also educate the youth to know about child abuse, HIV and AIDS and using protection during sexual intercourse. We want to instil the knowledge of modelling in young girls as well as to take them off the streets by keeping them busy."

The judges were Tintswalo Mtileni, Foxy Agwu, Amukelani Mavunda and Mmathapelo Nkwinika.

Mbulaheni Ridovhona

The 22-year-old Mbulaheni (Gary) Ridovhona has been passionate about journalism to the extent that he would buy himself a copy of weekly Univen students' newsletter, Our Voice.
