Area must “maximise resources” - Mayor Muhlope

The mayor of Musina, Cllr Mihloti Muhlope, said the municipality had made several platforms available for community members to make contributions on how the municipality should be run.

She was addressing community members, representatives of community structures and municipal stakeholders during a mayoral imbizo at Skoonplaas Stadium last Thursday.

She said she was impressed that local community members were using the platforms to engage the municipality on service-delivery issues. “Besides IDP meetings, we have ward meetings in all wards that are coordinated by the respective ward councillors and their ward committees.  Today’s event is a confirmation that the municipality takes the contributions of community members very seriously. Let us continue to work together to build our municipality into a safe place to stay and invest.”

Muhlope said the municipality was doing its best to make sure that people’s lives were improved in all 12 wards. “The most important thing is to maximize the use of the few resources we have for the benefit of everyone.”

During the imbizo, community members raised service-delivery issues relating to, among others, a shortage of housing, unemployment and crime. “All the issues raised here today have been noted. Those that are within the competency of the municipality will be attended to urgently. Issues that are outside the mandate of our operation will be referred to the relevant departments and stakeholders.  We will also make follow-ups to make sure that those issues are also attended to urgently by the relevant stakeholders.”
