Warm welcome for “King Mayor”

A local young soccer star who went for trials at Kaizer Chiefs’ development team, Tshifhiwa “King Mayor” Maligudu, trembled with excitement when the owner of the mega soccer team, Mr Kaizer Motaung, shook hands with him.

This was during an event to welcome him, which was held shortly after his arrival at the soccer team’s offices in Gauteng last week.

“I couldn't believe it that Mr Motaung had extended his hand to shake mine,” young King Mayor said from Gauteng. “I had always admired the great man for his activities in the soccer fraternity, but I hadn’t dreamt of meeting him this soon in my life. Indeed, dreams do come true.”

King Mayor’s amazing soccer talent was noticed when he was playing in the Mamu Community Development league where he drew the attention of a soccer legend, Jerry Sikhosana, who had come to scout for young and fresh soccer talent in the rural areas.

“Mr Motaung wished me good luck during my talent screening with the development team,” he said. “He said I should feel at home. He praised me for having won the heart of Jerry Sikhosana, who noticed my talent when I was playing soccer on the dusty field back home at Tshiozwi village.”

King Mayor is a Grade 9 pupil at Maneledzi Secondary School in Tshiozwi village. He developed his soccer skills when he was playing under Mabaleng Development, and then joined Tshiozwi Dynamos (reserve).

The general secretary of Mamu Community Development, Mr Jafter Mamugudubi, who had just returned home on Monday, said that he had witnessed King Mayor's welcome at the Kaizer Chiefs office. “We would like to thank Jerry Sikhosana, Kaizer Chiefs, and Hollywoodbets and KFC, who sponsored King Mayor’s trip. Let’s wait and see what happens with this amazing talent in a few weeks’ time.”
