After two days of entertaining football, Mikhado FC from Safa Vhembe and Baroka FC from Capricorn were promoted to the ABC Motsepe League. The SAB League promotional play-off matches were played at the Rabali Stadium over the past weekend.
Although Mikhado commenced their programme on a bad note, that did not stop them from finishing the tournament in the second position. They lost 0-1 to Baroka in their opening match. They regrouped, however, and walloped Ditlou FC from Waterberg 5-0.
Their third match was against the representatives from Mopani Region, Nkowankowa Barcelona, whom they narrowly beat 1-0 on Sunday morning. Mikhado wrapped up their promotional play-off programme by beating Ditlou FC from Sekhukhune 3-2.
Baroka FC are the only side who did not taste the pain of defeat in the tournament. Their worst result was a draw. They collected the first three points at the expense of Mikhado FC (1-0) and then drew 1-1 with Ditlou FC from Sekhukhune Region in their second match. Their other victories were against Ditlou FC from Waterberg (2-1) and 3-0 against Nkowankowa Barcelona. Baroka finished on top of the five-team league log with 10 points.
Nkowankowa Barcelona were the milk cow of the tournament. They went back home with one point in hand after losing three of their four matches and drew one.
Mikhado and Baroka will be campaigning in the ABC Motsepe League when the activities for the new season start in two months' time.
