TTM ready for the NFD heat

This weekend marks the starting point for the National First Division League (NFD) activities for the new season.

The Thohoyandou Stadium is expected to be packed to capacity on Sunday afternoon. That is where Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) will test their strength against Cape Town All Stars.

A quick glance at the TTM’s show room reveals that they are not to be taken for granted. Apart from the four players who agreed to relocate to Tshakhuma after the purchasing of the Milano United franchise by the president of TTM, Mr Masala Mulaudzi, last month, the Tshakhuma side acquired the services of a number of local players, including Gift Ramaxwaila, Rofhiwa Tshikovhi, Aluwani “Killer” Nedzamba, Dakalo “Akonkwo” Nemakonde and Takalani Ratshilima.

In the five matches that will be played tomorrow afternoon, the newly promoted Uthongathi FC will fight for league points against another Kwazulu Natal side, Royal Eagles, at the Tongaat Stadium outside Durban. Mthatha Bucks will be the visitors in their match against the University of Pretoria at the Absa Tuks Stadium in Pretoria. Mbombela United will host Black Leopards at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit.

Highlandspark will fight for league points against Jomo Cosmos at the Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa. Highlandspark were campaigning in the Absa Premiership Division last season. They were relegated to the NFD after finishing their league programme at the bottom of the log. The KwaZulu Natal derby between Richards Bay FC and Real Kings will be staged at the Umhlatuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay.

The Cape Town derby between Ubuntu Cape Town, or FC Cape Town as they were formerly known, and Stellenbosch FC will take place at the NNK Rugby Stadium on Monday afternoon. Stellenbosch FC missed promotion by a whisker last season. They failed to make the grade in the promotional play-off matches after finishing their league programme in the third position.
