Makhitha and Mpheni in a draw

Makhitha Iyarunga held the current log leaders of MMK Stream E, Mpheni Home Defenders, to a 1-1 draw in their league match played at Makhitha on Saturday.

Defenders took the game to Iyarunga from the first whistle, with their midfielders demonstrating a spirit of commitment. They could have sealed the game within the first 10 minutes, but their strikers were not accurate in converting their obvious chances into goals.

Moses Mabeba, Iyarunga’s left flank, had his chance in the 15th minute, after receiving a brilliant pass from Mulisa Liremi. He shot aimlessly from close range and the ball went wide.

The referee flashed the first yellow card in the 30th minute. Ndweleni Tsanwani of Iyarunga obstructed Ndaedzo Mareda. Shaft Mafunisa of Defenders scored after he received a pre -cooked pass from Shavy Muvhango in the 40th minute.

Early in the second half, Iyarunga introduced Mashudu Nengovhela and Musandiwa Matlari respectively. Iyarunga’s initial spirit of commitment faded and their backline started to leak. Defenders had a taste of bad luck in the 76th minute when Aaron Liswoga shot into the hands of the keeper, Mbavhalelo Mufamadi, from the penalty spot.

Iyarunga equalised late in the match via Mashudu Makhari.
