Another blow for Black Leopards

Black Leopards donated points to Cape Town City, following their 1-3 defeat in their Absa Premiership League match at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday.

Leopards’ keeper, King Ndlovu, made his presence felt seven minutes into the game. Ayanda Patosi, the City’s centre forward, received a neat pass from Thabo Nodada and unleashed from inside the box. Ndlovu braved the shot to execute a brilliant save.

City took the lead in the 10th minute. Ayanda Patosi beat the keeper with a long-range half volley. Leopards retaliated 11 minutes later. Their Zambian international, Mwape Musonda, beat the offside trap before sending the keeper the wrong way. City threatened to score again in the 28th minute when Ayanda Patosi’s header missed the target by inches. Allen Kateregga of City was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He tackled Lesedi Kapinga the rough way in the 34th minute.

The home side reclaimed the lead in the 42nd minute when Thabo Nodada set up for Allen Kateregga, who easily beat the keeper with a ground cutter to bring the half-time score to 2-1.

Marks Munyai, the Leopards’ captain, suffered the pain of watching his close-range attempt go a little wide in the 54th minute. City replaced Ayanda Patosi with Teko Modise two minutes later. The visitors introduced Ivan Mahangwahaya for Karabo Tshepe in the 70th minute. Lidoda Duvha threatened to score twice in a row. Mwape Musonda and Lifa Hlungwane were unlucky in both instances.

Leopards effected another change to their starting lineup. They brought in Joseph Mhlongo for Thabiso Mokoena in the 76th minute. Jean Munganga of Leopards was booked for obstructing Allen Kateregga a minute later. Edmilson Dove of City was reprimanded with a card for handling the ball intentionally soon afterwards.

Sphelele Mthembu scored the third for City with a header six minutes before the end of the regulation time. Joseph Mhlongo of Leopards was lucky not to be booked for obstructing Teko Modise in the dying minutes of the game.
