Victory for Great North

Great North FC collected three points in their first match of the ABC Motsepe Limpopo League when they beat Tshakhuma RO Nandilani (Tron) 3-1 at Rabali on Saturday.

Tron were the first to find the net. It took them 16 minutes to get the vuvuzelas blowing. Dakalo “Okonko” Nemakonde forced his way through the defence of Great North and showed the keeper, Masethe Morulane, the wrong way.

The goal was a wake-up call for Great North’s midfielders. They created several dangerous moves from the middle of the park, with Tron chasing the action.

The referee was a busy man as the tempo of the game increased with time. He flashed the first yellow card in the 39th minute. Konola Sethosa of Great North obstructed Oscar Ntsauba just outside the penalty box and the referee was quick to produce yellow. The score was 1-0 in favour of Tron when the teams adjourned for half time.

Great North found the equaliser in the 66th minute when Konola Sethosa beat the keeper with a volley, following a brilliant pass from Koketso Moko.

Great North then replaced Thabiso Neforo and Qolani Khoza with Koketso Kombers and Legoha Tsiinje. Their introduction changed the complexion of the match as they dished up good passes to their strikers. Kombers scored his team’s second goal after a scramble within the box.

Later in the match, Mmachuene Chidi increased the margin to 3-1.
