Sea Robbers and Soccer Academy in local derby

Wayeni Sea Robbers will host Mashamba Soccer Academy in an MMK Administrators league Stream F local derby on Sunday at the Wayeni grounds. Sea Robbers are still leading Stream F on points, with Academy in the second spot.

Ms Mercy Rambau of Soccer Academy believes the side is finding form after some poor results in their previous matches. “But we need to get some back-to-back wins to make progress up the log table. We know Sea Robbers will be strong and I’m sure that my players this time will do everything for us to get a victory,” she said.

Rambau said that derbies were difficult to predict, but she had confidence in her players. “I will never go into a match looking for a draw. I play for a win,” she said.

The chairperson of Sea Robbers, Mr Bolly Baloyi, said that they were not going to underestimate Academy. They considered any game as a cup final, he said, and promised that they were going to collect maximum points. “We’ve told the players about the fact that we are just a few games from the last match, but we must take it one game at the time. It’s not yet time to think about any promotional playoff. We have to beat Academy first and see whom we meet in the top position. The log is still too tight; there is not much of a gap between the second position and the top. We are moving in the right direction,” he said.

The Stream E log leaders, Magau United, will play against Madombidzha Arsenal in another local derby. Arsenal are in the third position, with only a five-point difference between them and United. The coach of Arsenal, Mr Bishop Musiamo, said that they did not want to lose this match. He added that the players were well aware of the fact that it was now a matter of do or die.

He reiterated the fact that they were not going to use their head-to-head results with Arsenal as their yardstick to determine what they would come across on Sunday. According to him, their aim was to win the remaining matches, saying that would be good enough to them.

Arsenal’s coach, Mr Owert Mammburu, said that their aim was to use the United match as a stepping stone to the top teams. “Apart from the fact that there is a lot at stake in the league, it is time for us to fulfil our promises,” he said.

Mammburu stated that they had a squad that had all the ingredients for winning the remaining matches. “I’ve told my boys that we can perform well, if we only focus and give our best,” said Mammburu.

Other fixtures are: Stream D leaders Muziafera will host Flying Eagles on Sunday at the Muziafera grounds. Stream G log leaders Maelula United will welcome Phadzima KSP Young Stars on Sunday at the Maelula grounds. In Stream I, Dipeni FC will test their strength against Mubvumo FC at the Tshitavha grounds on Sunday. The current log leaders of Stream H, Berea FC, will fight for league points with Folovhodwe Stone Breakers on Sunday at the Zwigodini grounds.
