Mamu launches easter tournament season

Sixteen villages will participate in the Hollywoodbets Easter Sports Challenge 2019 games that will take place over the Easter weekend in the Sinthumule and Kutama area.

This is an annual fun-filled activity that attracts more than 45 000 participants from Limpopo Province and beyond.

“This year's tournament marks our 10th anniversary,” said Mamu Community Development's general secretary, Mr Jafter Mamugudubi. He was commenting during the tournament’s launch at Elengos Wedding Venue and Functions last week. “We aim to continue with this kind of good work which adds value to our communities and Vhembe as a whole.”

Matches at different venues will start on Friday (19th). The winners of these matches will enter the top-eight matches, which will be played on Saturday at Vhuilafuri Stadium at Madabani village. The top four will then battle it out in the semi-final at Vhuilafuri on Sunday. The final match will be played at 15:00.

According to Mamugudubi, the overall winning team will go home with R20 000, a soccer kit, thirty gold medals, two trophies, and a floating trophy. “The champions will also get a trip to Supersport Ebhola Lethu studios in Gauteng,” Mamugudubi said. “The losers in the final get a R10 000 cash prize, while the two losers in the semi-finals receive R5000 each. Teams number 5-8 will receive R2500. All the other teams that participated in the tournament (number 9-16) get R750 each.”

He stated that there would be R1 000 cash prizes for both player of the tournament and the top goal scorer. The Jerry Sikhosana Goal Post Award will be given to the best goal keeper, and it comes with a R1 000 cash prize.

Talisman's Mr Laurie Bannatyne praised the Mamu team for the good work they are doing for the communities' benefit. “It's heart-warming to observe that you are not doing this for money, but for the purpose of uplifting the community.” Talisman is one of the sponsors of the tournament.

The final game will be covered by SuperSport.
