Limpopo derby in Thohoyandou

The Thohoyandou Stadium will be the best place to be for local soccer lovers on Sunday afternoon. That is where the much-awaited PSL Limpopo derby between Black Leopards and Baroka FC will take place.

Whether Baroka will prove the critics wrong and do the unexpected by beating Lidoda Duvha on Sunday remains to be seen. Black Leopards finished last season with 30 points. Six of the points were collected from Baroka, whom they beat at home and away.

Leopards are currently lying in the 12th spot with four points, while Baroka are in the ninth position, one point above them.

After missing the team’s first two matches, Mwape Musonda, the Leopards’ Zambian striker, will be available for selection on Sunday. Should he be given a chance, Musonda is expected to form an admirable combination with Lifa Hlongwane, Joseph Mhlongo and Cuthbert Malajila at the forefront.

Baroka’s strikers will not find it easy to break the Leopards’ wall of defense, which is marshalled by Isaac Masia, Pentjie Zulu and the team’s skipper, Thabo Matlaba.

Sunday’s other match-up will be between Bloemfontein Celtic and Stellenbosch FC at the Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The four matches that will be played tomorrow (Saturday) are Lamontville Golden Arrows vs AmaZulu, Orlando Pirates vs Chippa United, Kaizer Chiefs vs Polokwane City and SuperSport vs Cape Town City.
