Swallows and Continentals in semis

The semi-finals and final of the Thulamela Local Football Association (Thulfa) champ-of-champs matches will be played at the Makonde Home Defenders’ grounds this weekend.

The semi-finals will be played tomorrow, while the final will be staged on Sunday. Mapholi Stone Breakers, Lukau Hot Aces, Mulindathavha Ocean Swallows and Shanzha Continentals secured places in the semi-final stage.

The first semi-final match will be between Mapholi Stone Breakers and Lukau Hot Aces at 13:00. Mapholi Stone Breakers beat Tshilavulu Elite to book a place in the semi-final, while Hot Aces’ way to the semis went via Lamvi FC, whom they beat 2-1 last weekend.

Mulindathavha Ocean Swallows will battle it out with Shanzha Continentals later in the afternoon. Ocean Swallows’ way to the semis was thorny and rocky. They beat Muungamunwe Happy Boys 7-6 in their quarterfinal match last weekend. The winner was determined through penalty shootout as the score was 3-3 at the end of the regulation time.

The winners in the semi-final matches will meet in the final on Sunday afternoon. The final will be preceded by a losers’ final match that is scheduled to start at 13:00.

According to the chairman of the association, Mr Ephraim Makhanda Singo, the overall champions will take home a cash prize of R20 000 and floating trophy. R15 000 is awaiting the team that will finish in the second spot. The third- and fourth-placed teams will receive R12 000 and R10 000 respectively. The other teams that took part in the champ-of-champs matches will take home R8 000 each.

Singo added that the date for the prize-giving ceremony would be announced next week.
