Cash prizes amounting to R60 000 were distributed among the clubs that participated in the Murunwa Louis Trichardt TVET tournament under the Makhado Local Football Association (MLFA) during a ceremony that was held at the Muduluni Community Hall on Saturday.

The deputy-president of Safa Vhembe, Mr Joseph Maphaha, appealed to businesspeople to get involved in promoting local activities. He added that the MLFA league had been operating many years without a sponsorship. He also emphasized the importance of education and said that sportspeople must not neglect their studies. “You can be a star today and be written off the following day. Education will never forsake you, and you can bank on it,” he added.

The managing director of Murunwa TVET, Mr Patrick Mudau, stated that the policy of his college was to give a portion of their profit back to the community. He appealed to the management of the association to utilise the money properly towards sports development.

Mudau stated that sponsorships played a vital role in sports development. He described football as a community-building sport that played a major role in as far as job creation was concerned.

Cllr David Davhana praised the sponsors and added that he was very proud "that we have grown young people of real quality" and that he was convinced that the league would produce stars who would receive international recognition soon.

Davhana further said that the government appreciated the selfless contribution of Murunwa TVET and others, who were all at the forefront of developing the local youth. “Despite the difficult economic conditions, we still find companies that are prepared to share their takings and support us.”

The champions, Ablec FC, went home with R6 500, soccer kit, gold medals and a floating trophy. The runners-up, Magau Mighty Green, received R5 000, silver medals and soccer kit. Ramantsha Lotavha FC collected R4 000 and bronze medals and Chris United R3 000.
