Brave Lion surrender to Mountain Rangers

Vhutalu Mountain Rangers beat Tshidimbini Brave Lion 2-1 in the final of the Benjie’s Soccer Tournament at the Khubvi Benjie’s grounds on Saturday.

Mountain Rangers took the game to Brave Lion from the first whistle. Although Brave Lion conceded two goals within the first 20 minutes of the game, they did not lose their original fighting spirit. They continued to play like a team, regrouping from behind and initiating some promising moves from the middle of the park.

Mountain Rangers took just seven minutes to stamp their authority on the match. Their playmaker, Khondani Singo, tried his luck with a long-range half volley. The Lion’s keeper, Vhafhatutshedzwa Muravha, watched helplessly as the ball hit the back of the net.

Brave Lion started to demonstrate their rough skills shortly afterwards in a bid to neutralize the opposition. The situation returned to normal after the referee reprimanded their left back, Dakalo Muruge, with a card. Rangers increased the margin to 2-0 in the 19th minute when Ampfarisaho Thagwane blasted in a rocket, following a neat pass from Tshilisanani Phalanndwa.

A clearing error by the Rangers’ centre back, Livhuwani Nengome, in the 29th minute gave rise to the Lion’s only goal. Humbulani Muleka intercepted a back pass before sending the keeper the wrong way. Mountain Rangers came close to scoring again when Tshilisanani Phalanndwa went loose from the left corner and shot wide four minutes into the last half.

Rangers effected one change to their starting line-up. They replaced Mpho Singo with Tshifhiwa Gandamipfa in the 64th minute. Brave Lion responded by introducing Ndivhuwo Netshaulu, Mulalo Mavhungu and Ndivho Madima and sacrificed Humbulani Muleka, Atshidzaho Muthevhuli and Dakalo Muruge towards the end of the game.

Khondani Singo of Rangers was nominated Man of the Match.
