Together fun walk unites villages

The “Together We Can Grow” Fun Run/Walk brought together 500 people from the mountainous villages for a day filled with exercises such as a fun walk, a fun run and aerobic exercises at Tshixwadza village.

The event participants varied from young and old community members to leaders and pastors and even included the magarabas (those who had come home from other provinces).

The walk and run started at the Tshixwadza Old Grounds and went to Bvulabadzhi and back for an 8km long return.

“We had a successful event that continues to be the talk of the village as everyone enjoyed the experience,” said event organiser Dovhani Mudzielwana. “The event aimed to encourage unity among the communities, promoting a healthy living through fitness and, more importantly, to encourage networking and progressive life.”

At the end of the day, people were encouraged to form small exercise groups that will then run throughout the year.

Participants were awarded medals and trophies, based on their positions. The biggest trophy went to the oldest lady who had made it to the finish line.

Entertainment came from singers such as Acolly Mandiza, Rhuu Tshikovha, Vendaboy Poet, Thora Thora, Nzhelele FM drama, Protea Boys, local lady dancers and KP Sounds.

The event was made possible by contributions from organisations and individuals who had felt touched by the purpose of the event. “We remain thankful to all the sponsors, partners, donors and organisers,” said Mudzielwana.
