After playing two consecutive games in front of their home crowd, Venda Football Club (VFC) will be on the road this Saturday. The team will travel to Kimberley, where they will fight for league points against Hungry Lions at Suzuki Stadium.
VFC are fast becoming the league’s whipping boys. The team has managed to deposit only one point into their league account after four matches. VFC has conceded four goals and are yet to score this season.
Not only would a victory against Hungry Lions enhance the team’s chances of escaping the relegation axe at the end of the season, but the win would also go a long way toward restoring the team’s lost pride.
It was unclear at the time of our going to press whether the team’s current caretaker coach, Mr Rowan Hendricks, would still be in charge on Saturday. Hendricks took over as caretaker coach, following the departure of head coach Mr Duncan Lechesa and his assistant Mr Elelwani Rashamuse early last week.
VFC, or Maunavhathu as they are commonly known, are still struggling to come to terms with the 0-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of Leruma United at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
Tshovelo Mathebula, Lerato Mofokeng, and Nhlanhla Makhubele will be expected to keep the team’s defence solid throughout the game, while Thabelo Tshikweta and Rudzani “Zoba” Thobo will carry the team’s hopes for goals.
Also on Saturday, Black Leopards will host Hungry Lions at Thohoyandou Stadium. The other weekend fixtures are: Casric Stars vs Orbit College FC, Highbury vs Upington City, Durban City vs Cape Town Spurs, Kruger United vs Milford FC, Leruma United vs JDR Stars, and Pretoria University vs Baroka FC.
