Hulisani ignites ladies' hopes

“My failures are my motivation – they teach me to be uncomfortable and prise me out of my comfort zone to a stage where I stand strong, knowing that I am capable.”

Hulisani Mushiane, née Siobo, discovered her writing talent at the age of 15 when she kept a consistent journal. Now, many years later, she is using all her early experiences to write instrumental books on success and motivation.

Her published books are Unlocking tough doors to success – 10 keys every woman should know and 60 days of bravery – 60 days devotions to help you unlock tough doors to your success.

“I was too scared to talk to my parents or friends about issues of life,” she said. “So, I used to write everything in my journal. I was an introvert, so writing was my strong point since socialising was not.”

A resident of Ha-Budeli village and Pretoria, Hulisani attended many schools in different provinces since she had moved from one place to another for the most part of her life. Schools she attended include, among others, Dansa International College in Pretoria, Mbilwi High School, and Tshikevha Christian School.

“I find the writing process quite exciting, like any journey in life,” she said. “When a child goes to Grade 1, they become so excited that they already know they want to become a doctor when they finish school. Little do they know that there is mathematics, which will need commitment, dedication and discipline. I had a similar experience while writing my first book. I was just writing to express myself since I was going through a lot at that stage.”

However, she had to undertake some topical research to determine the challenges that women generally face in life. “It was very helpful, and it made me think deeply and broadly about myself as a woman and the power (influence) we carry. We need to discover our purpose and pursue self-love.”

She is a businesswoman who also leads by example that juggling family life and business and social commitments is possible. “I studied analytical chemistry at Tshwane University of Technology, and I am a qualified assessor.” Hulisani's books help women (and men) to reignite their self-esteem.

“Most women suffer or have suffered low self-esteem,” she said. “That affects their confidence at work, in business, in their career, and in marriage. I have seen that most women are very competitive. For example, when the neighbour is getting married, the mother will then pressure the daughter to get married to a man who has a stable job or gets tenders, just to show the community that they are also there, yet sacrificing their own daughter in the process. What, then, do we say about the dreams and vision of the young daughter?”

She is inspired by ladies such as Basetsane Kumalo, who is “just unstoppable”, and her favourite authors are Richard Rambau, Bishop TD Jakes and Dr Myles Munroe.

The two books are available as a package at R350. Hulisani is available on most social media platforms and she can be reached on [email protected] or 0827642029 (WhatsApp), or visit her website http://mushianeh.wixsite.com/mysite.
