News - Date: 18 January 2013

One of the top performers at Thengwe Secondary School, Hulisani Belinda Likhwaimana (18), believes that her good results during this year's matric examination will help to inspire others to do even better.

Lukhwaimane is the toast of her school and family after she produced seven distinctions in accounting, economics, English, mathematics, physical science, Tshivenda and life orientation.

Speaking from her home at Tshilamba in Mutale, Belinda said that she always knew that she was going to get distinctions in all seven of the subjects she wrote. "I worked very hard from the beginning of the year until the last day of our exams. I never had time to play as I attended morning classes from 06:30 and other afternoon classes until 17:30." She also also attended special classes on Saturday and Sundays "just to make sure that I get distinctions in all subjects," explained a very confident Lukhwaimane, who also got inspiration from her father Khathutshelo and her friends.

She says her father, a history teacher at the same school, "always told me that I must work hard in my school work as matric only came once." During 2012, Lukwaimana was always in the top three in a class of 287 matric pupils at Thengwe, one of the Dinaledi Schools. Lukhwaimane says she is ready to face new challenges at the University of Cape Town, where she will study B Com Accounting.
