Another award for Phalaphala sports presenter

News - Date: 13 June 2003

THOHOYANDOU – Phalaphala FM has made another mark in the history books for both the Premier Soccer League and the South African Breweries this year. The radio station's diminutive sports presenter, Tshililo Nefufule, was named the winner of the 2002/2003 Castle Soccer Beat Presenter of the Season during a glittering ceremony that was held in Johannesburg last week.

He took home a cash prize of R10 000, apart from the trophy that goes with it. It is not the first time that the radio station has won such an award. Nelufule's predecessor, Mr Freddy Sadiki, won the same award for the radio station in the 2001/2002 soccer season.

Nelufule took over from Sadiki two months ago. The radio station held a party to celebrate its achievement in Polokwane yesterday. During last week's prize-giving ceremony, the 2002/2003 league champions, Orlando Pirates, were awarded with a fat cheque to the value of R1,5 million. The cash prize was accompanied by a floating trophy.

The league's top goal scorer, Lesley Manyathela of Orlando Pirates, became R75 000 richer during the ceremony. Manyathela scored 18 goals in league matches and four in cup games.

Another Pirates player, captain Mbulelo Mabizela, won the player of the season award. He took home a cheque amounting to R75 000. The Players' player of the season award was won by the Ajax Cape Town FC keeper, Moeneed Josephs. The Ajax goalkeeper collected more Man of the Match awards from both league and cup games last season than any other player and his heroics between the poles saved the club from relegation.

The Wits University Football Club coach, Mr Roger De Sa, was nominated the best coach of the season.
