THOHOYANDOU – Prof Mbulelo Mzamane, one of South Africa's distinguished scholars and Vice-Chancellor of Fort-Hare, has joined the University of Venda for Science and Technology as a visiting Professor and Acting Director in the Eskia Mphahlele Institute of African Studies.
His appointment at University will be for a period of a year.
Prof Muxe Nkondo, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Venda for Science and Technology (Univen), describes the appointment of Mzamane as one of the major appointments in the history of Univen.
"For us to have recruited a scholar of Mzamane's calibre is a confirmation that we are a true first class university. Mzamane is one of the finest scholars South Africa has ever produced", said Nkondo.
Commenting on his appointment, Mzamane said, " I count myself most fortunate to have been recruited at this most critical stage in educational transformation in our country to serve Univen as visiting professor and Acting Director of the E'skia Mphahlele Institute of African Studies".
"No strategy for the eradication of poverty will succeed in South Africa without harnessing the nation's resources and redirecting them to such institutions as the University of Venda for Science and Technology," said Mzamane.
Mzamane has accomplished a lot in the field of teaching, research, publishing, administrative leadership and serving on boards in the country and internationally.
Before joining Univen, Mzamane was appointed as a distinguished visiting professor at several universities amongst which are Brandeis in the US, South Australia in Australia and Vermont in the US.
